So I decided to write a new book

I'm excited to announce that I'm writing a new book: Entrepreneurship for Musicians.
My Journey in Community Building
I've been building engaged communities since 2009, starting in the world of open source software, tech entrepreneurship, and startups. The journey has been incredible:
- Built communities around open source projects
- Helped tech startups find their tribe
- Worked with major companies to engage developer audiences globally
In 2012, I made the leap to Silicon Valley. There, I had the privilege of helping some of the world's most innovative companies build and nurture their developer communities. I learned what makes communities thrive, how to create genuine engagement, and most importantly - how to build sustainable businesses around passionate audiences.
The Connection to Music
You might wonder: what does tech community building have to do with music?
Everything.
The strategies that work for building engaged developer communities are exactly what independent artists need today. The principles are the same:
- Create value for your community
- Build genuine relationships
- Provide consistent engagement
- Turn passion into sustainable business
Why This Book Matters
The music industry has fundamentally changed. The old model of record labels as gatekeepers is dying. But many musicians are still trying to succeed using outdated strategies.
Independent artists today have unprecedented opportunities, but they need a new playbook. They need to think like entrepreneurs, not just artists.
What You'll Learn
In "Entrepreneurship for Musicians," I'm sharing:
- How to identify and connect with your true fans
- Community building strategies that actually work
- Ways to create multiple revenue streams
- How to leverage technology without losing authenticity
- Building a sustainable music business in the digital age
The Core Message
Building an engaged global fan base is the key to creating a sustainable business as an independent artist. It's not about going viral or getting lucky. It's about consistently creating value for the people who care about your music.
The same strategies that helped tech companies build million-dollar businesses around open source software can help you build a thriving music career.
Join Me on This Journey
This book is for the independent artist who's ready to take control of their career. For the musician who understands that art and business aren't enemies - they're partners.

The future of music belongs to artists who think like entrepreneurs. Let's build that future together.
The third book had its own publishing war — Manning, iOS 7, and a LaTeX detour.
The platform problem this book addresses — I broke it down in another post for musicians.
The first book of this writing journey, way back in 1997, has a story of its own.
